The ladies of GEM will receive flowers from the Kutchers

This Valentine’s Day, Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have selected the girls of GEMS: Girls Educational & Mentoring Services as their special Valentines.

Demi and Ashton are active anti-human trafficking activists that have committed their voices and resources to ending all forms of modern slavery. After meeting, Rachel Lloyd, the founder of GEMS, the nation’s largest provider of services to commercially sexually exploited and domestically trafficked girls and young women and visiting their New York offices to hear the stories of GEMS members, (American girls as young as 12), who were bought and sold right in the heart of New York City, The Kutchers have supported GEMS efforts at transforming victims to survivors to youth leaders with Twitters and mentions in the press.

Demi recently selected GEMS in the Pepsi Refresh Celebrity Challenge as the organization to receive a $250K grant and the couple has decided to treat over 250 GEMS girls as their special Valentines with gifts of flowers, perfume and cards.

"I struck up an agreement with the wife this year that we're not going to try to do something big for each other and instead the best way we can celebrate the day is to share our love with other people," says Ashton.
"There's an organization in New York called GEMS that helps human trafficking victims. There are a bunch of these girls that have come off the streets and are now being housed, so we're going to make all those girls our Valentines this year. I think there are 270 girls, and we're going to send them all flowers so they can know they can be loved by someone without them having to ask for anything in return," he added.

GEMS provides counseling, housing, job training, education assistance, court advocacy, programs, and LOVE to young victims of commercial sexual exploitation. Last year GEMS launched the national campaign, Girls Are Not For Sale with the support of BEYONCE, HALLE BERRY, SINEAD O'CONNOR, MARY J. BLIGE, and DEMI MOORE.
