Savannah is the perfect destination for Southern romance!  Named the “Best Romantic Getaway” by Travel + Leisure magazine on numerous occasions, couples will leave the City with a new found love for each other and a deeper appreciation of Southern Charm. 

Let’s set the tone…accommodations at The Bohemian Hotel which situated on an 18th century cobblestone street along the famous Savannah River.  The hotel is designed with a very contemporary style with a vintage allure.  The hotel’s rooftop lounge, “Rocks on the Roof” offers a spectacular view of the Savannah River in an atmosphere of casual elegance.  The opulent guestrooms will be sure to start a small flame to set your heart on fire.  

Let’s dive in more!  Not only will you “fall in love”, but you can also use this time to explore the nation’s largest urban historic districts.  Hop aboard a bus or trolley for a tour emphasizing African-American heritage, the Civil War or Savannah in film).  Conclude the evening with a moonlit carriage ride or catch a show at one of Savannah’s performance theaters (musicals, plays and headlining acts can be enjoyed year-round).  The Black Heritage Festival is held each year in February.  All events and activities are free of admission and open to the public (great music and dance performances, visual art exhibitions, spoken word and health and wellness fair just to name a few).

Visit sunny Tybee Island, just a 20minute drive from the Historic District, Savannah’s beach (picnic on the beach anyone).  Take a dolphin tour, a deep-sea fishing excursion or climb to the top of Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse.  There are also funky seaside bungalows for dining and romantic strolls in the Tybee pier.  The guys will be especially happy about this one; there are over 30 golf courses within 30 miles featuring some of the toughest holes around.  Ladies, I didn’t forget about you!  While your honey is off playing a round of golf, you can spend a day pampering yourself Poseidon Spa (located inside the Mansion on Forsyth Park).  After a few spa treatments, you can top off the afternoon shopping for shoes at the Cooper Penny or a few hot signature pieces from Bleu Belle Boutique, Diaspora Market Place (African drums, jewelry and paintings), or Carol’s of Savannah. 

Now we are headed off for some real excitement! For the music enthusiast, wet your taste buds at the Jazz Corner.  For the wild at heart, Saya Lounge could be just what the doctor ordered (“transform your mind, body and soul inside this warmly lit, attractive ultra lounge”).  Feel your heart beating now? 

I’ve saved the best for last!  A cooking class at the 700 Kitchen cooking school.  Ladies, save your best outfit for this evening!  After the two of you have prepared a special meal together, you can spend the rest of the evening recapturing why you feel in love in the first place. 

This month’s issue is very dear to me as I am a strong advocate for “black love” and marriage.  Not the images that are forced upon us, but the good, old-fashioned love (that builds you up instead of tearing you down).  That kind of love requires hard work and dedication, but the benefits are endless!  Love is the greatest gift given to us by God…embrace the treasures that are sent your way.
